Standing Wave is a video (11 mins 2006) showing a semaphore message laboriously being passed between the Naze Tower and Roughs Tower, and back again, person to person, tower to tower, asking the question WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR? The Naze Tower is a navigational tower on the cliffs of Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex, and Roughs Tower is a wartime platform, six miles out at sea. It was occupied in 1967 by Paddy Bates who declared it to be the independent Principality of Sealand, a micro-nation with its own currency, royal family, passports and visa requirements. Standing Wave was produced as part of self-initiated project If Ever You’re In The Area (2005-06)
